The naming of our startup is a curious mix of references and coincidences. All of the founders love music and have been some sort of musician. During a brainstorming session, running out of ideas, Giovanni – one of our founders – began reading aloud the list of musical modes: Ionian, Doric, Phrygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian, Locrian.
The team liked the sound of AEOLIAN, which is also easier to remember and write without the “A.”
The king of the winds in Greek mythology is Aeolus, and this name ideally refers to the origin of the startup, born within “VENTO” (word meaning “wind”, which is also one of the main drivers of natural events) Venture Originator in Turin.
Then the team noticed that E.O. stands for Earth Observation; I.A. is the Italian acronym for A.I., Artificial Intelligence.
Finally, they decided to write two “N’s” at the end of the company’s name, because N.N. stands for Neural Network, a powerful architecture that has enabled improved performance in Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence over the past 10 years.
